About JEPQ

JEPQ is the Nasdaq version of JEPI. It holds a portfolio of stocks drawn mainly from the Nasdaq-100, so the biggest positions are large technology and growth companies, and adds equity-linked notes (ELNs) that sell call options on the Nasdaq-100 index.

The Nasdaq-100 moves more than the S&P 500, and more movement means options pay higher premiums. That is why JEPQ usually pays noticeably more than JEPI. It also means JEPQ's share price swings more, and it gives up more upside than JEPI when tech rallies sharply.

Like JEPI, much of JEPQ's income arrives through the ELNs and is typically taxed as ordinary income, so where you hold it matters. Many investors keep it in an IRA and use JEPI and JEPQ side by side for a mix of steadier and higher income.
