About VOO
VOO tracks the S&P 500, the 500 large U.S. companies that make up most of the stock market's value. It is not a dividend fund, but most of those companies pay dividends, so VOO pays a small quarterly dividend that has grown over time.
Its yield is low because the biggest companies in the index, especially in technology, pay little or nothing compared with their share prices. Most of VOO's return has come from price growth rather than income, which is why its total return is far larger than its dividends alone would suggest.
